Shooting Hoops

Shooting Hoops is a fast paced advert style animation using quick cutting and break beat music to capture the speed of Basketball.

The idea was to recreate an environment in a photorealistic style and add a CG character. Many visual cues such as Depth of Field, High Dynamic Range rendering and Lens Distortion have been used to enhance the photorealistic feel.

The animation was achieved using Motion Capture. With a 3 x 3 x 3 metre mocap space, a talented mocap operator, a basketball player and a couple of hours we managed to produce many sequences of animation.

The production of the short film was made very difficult due to the quick cutting. With lots of very short shots (some only 10 frames long) the task of rendering and compositing hundreds of passes became very time consuming.
